영국의 물리학자 스티븐 호킹은 ‘우주가 11차원으로 이루어진 것이 분명하다. 그러나 우주가 무엇으로 11차원을 형성하고 있는지 알기 위해서는 우주 바깥으로 나가서 바라보아야 한다. 하지만 우주 바깥으로 나갈 수 있는 거대한 추진력을 가진 로켓이 없다. 로켓이 있다 하더라도 지구로 돌아올 수 있는 방법이 없다. 돌아오더라도 사람들에게 설명할 수 있는 언어 수단이 없다. 설사 설명을 한다 해도 이해할 사람이 없다. 그래서 나는 우주가 무엇으로 이루어졌는지 알려고 하지 않겠다.’라고 했다. 이렇듯 우리가 알지 못하는 나머지 7차원의 우주 기운으로, 지구 자체를 포함해서 그 안에 존재하는 모든 생명체들에게 영향을 끼치는 것들을 영성(靈性)이라고 한다. 우리 인생을 좀더 지혜롭게 사는 유일한 방법인  영성회복을 강조하고 있는 사단법인 명당의 김규덕 居士를 만나 그의 진솔한 이야기를 들어 보았다. _안연승 차장(Written by An Yeun-sung)
Stephen Hawking, an English theoretical physicist, has said that the universe is clearly comprised of 11 dimensions, but in order to confirm this, we must view the universe from the outside. However, there are no rockets with such a massive propulsion force that can possibly take us outside the universe. Even if there was, there would be no means to return to Earth. And even if there was a possibility of returning to Earth, there would be no means of explaining what was witnessed to the people. Even if it could be explained, there would be no one who could truly understand it. That was why Stephen Hawking did not attempt to figure out what the universe was comprised of. As such, the remaining seven dimensions that we are not aware of are “divine nature” that influences the Earth and every living form that exists on Earth with the energy of the university. I met with the spiritual management master, Kim Gyu-deok of Myeongdang who stresses the importance of restoring the divine nature, or spirituality, which is the only way we can be wiser in life, to hear his heartfelt story.

김규덕 居士는 1950년 12월 28일 부산에서 태어나 부산상대를 졸업했다. 졸업 후에는 현대, 롯데 등 국내 굴지의 대기업에서 근무했으며 한때는 사업체를 이끌어 성공이라는 의미와 기쁨도 맛보았다. 그러나 자기 얼굴에 책임을 져야 한다는 나이 40에 접어들면서 막막한 현실과 장래에 대한 불안감에 매일 밤 잠못이루며 괴로워했다. 그 후 5~6년간을 인생의 고수들의 조언을 듣고자 전국을 찾아다녔으나 모두 그 나물에 그 밥이란 생각이 들었다. 나이 46세에 부산 황령산에 들어가 목숨을 바쳐 기도에 매진했다. 그렇게 하나님을 만나고 천문을 열게 되었다. 기도 끝에 얻은 해답을 세상의 많은 사람들과 공유하고 귀하게 얻은 철칙을 잘 활용하여 많은 사람이 편안하게 살 수 있도록 그 후에도 3년 기도, 7년 공부를 하여 하나님이 내려주신 ‘중생제도’의 실천을 위해 명당을 설립하고 중생들의 행복한 삶을 위한 해답을 전하고 있다.
Kim Gyu-deok was born in Busan on December 28, 1950 and graduated from Busan national University College of Business and economics. After graduation, he worked for the top conglomerates in Korea including Hyundai and Lotte, and experienced the joy of successfully running a business himself. However, after reaching his 40s, he suffered sleepless nights due to the anxiety and worries he had regarding his present and future, which, to him, seemed grim. For 5 to 6 years afterwards, he traveled across the country seeking advice from life gurus, but he did not find anyone who particularly impressed him. So at the age of 46, he began staying on Hwangnyeongsan Mountain in Busan and dedicated his life to prayers. That is how he met God and opened the heaven’s door After receiving the answers to his questions through prayers, he wanted to share his knowledge with many others and follow the principles he learned to help others lead pleasant lives. For this reason, he prayed for 3 years and studied for 7 years before establishing 명당 as a way to practice the people’s system bestowed upon by God and to share the secret to living in happiness.

2002년 월드컵 경기 때에 시청 앞 광장에 구름같이 모여 대한민국을 외치던 우리 국민들의 모습을 기억하십니까? 우리 국가대표팀은 다른 어느 나라보다 많은 시간 경기를 했습니다. 다른 팀들은 한번 하기도 어려운 연장전과 승부차기를 여러 번 그리고 매 경기 피를 말리는 접전을 벌였고 동시에 감동적인 드라마도 연출했습니다. 그 때부터 우리나라는 국운 상승의 길에 들어섰습니다. 작은 내가 큰 강을 이루며 도도히 흐르기 시작한 시점입니다. 이제 인류 역사에 큰 획이 그어진, 그 변화의 중심에 우리 한민족이 자리를 잡았습니다. 우리 민족은 정도 많고 한도 많은 민족입니다. 의리도 있고 신의도 지킬 줄 아는 굳은 의지의 민족입니다. 다만, 지금까지 우리가 삶에 여유가 없고 먹고 살기에 급급해서 정을 베풀고 신의를 말할 만큼 편안하지 않아 실행하지 못했을 뿐입니다. 이제 우리나라는 세계수출국 순위 6위의 강대국이 되었습니다. 동족상잔의 피비린내 나는 전쟁을 겪고 난 이후 허허벌판에 내동댕이쳐졌던 우리 민족이 기적을 이루었습니다. 앞으로만 나아간다고 뒤는 고사하고 옆도 한번 쳐다볼 겨를도 없었습니다. 이런 모든 것들이 ‘우리도 한번 잘 살아보자’하며 모두가 열심히 일한 결과 아니겠습니까? 이제 앞으로 적어도 백년은 우리 민족이 세계 역사의 주인공이 되어야 합니다. 그 어떤 민족도 우리 민족이 해야 할 온 세상을 위한 중추적인 역할을 대신할 능력도 없고 준비도 되어있지 않습니다. 하늘에서 내려주는 복도 잘 받아야 복이 되지 잘 받들지 못하면 복이 화로 변해 버립니다. 복이 화로 변하게 하는 일이 일어나면, 그것은 우리 민족뿐 아니라 온 인류에게 크나큰 죄를 짓는 겁니다. 한 손에는 지식, 다른 한 손에는 문화를 들고 세상 밖으로 나아갑시다. 우리 민족에게 이런 책무를 주신 이유는 혼자서만 잘 먹고 잘 살라는 것이 아니라 우리 민족이 중심이 되어 세계평화를 이루라는 말씀입니다. 이제부터는 아웅다웅 다투며 시기, 질투하고 살 것이 아니라 서로 품어주고 어루만져주는 재미있고 아름다운 세상을 만들어야 합니다.
Do you recall how countless people gathered at the square in front of the Seoul City Hall during the 2002 FIFA World Cup to root for the South Korean national football team in unison? The national football team of South Korea played the longest at the 2002 FIFA World Cup than any other national teams. Several of their matches went into overtime and shoot-outs, which was not the case for any of the other teams, and all of their matches were very close and gripping, presenting emotional and dramatic scenes for the spectators and viewers. That was when the fate of South Korea entered the path of prosperity; it was a moment when all the small streams gathered together to flow as a massive river. The people of Korea made history, playing a central role in a major change. Koreans are very caring and affectionate people with jeong, who also have a deep sense of resentment, or han. We are also loyal and faithful people with a strong will. However, we have been so focused on making ends meet and trying to survive from day to day that we haven’t been in a situation where we could practice kindness and generosity. South Korea has become a global powerhouse, ranking as the 6th biggest exporter in the world. We, who experienced a devastating fratricidal war and had to rebuild the country from nothing, achieved a remarkable miracle. We could only stride forward, without looking back or around ourselves. What we have achieved are the results of our hard work and dedication as well as our dire wish to “lead a quality life.” Now, for at least a hundred years from now, the people of Korea must take the center stage of the world. There are no other peoples who are prepared to play or capable of playing a pivotal role in the global society, as we are. When God blesses us, we must accept it properly and with gratitude, or else His blessing will turn into a disaster. It is a sin to let this happen, as it devastates not only our own people but the entire mankind. Take knowledge in one hand and take culture in the other before moving toward the rest of the world. God has given the people of Korea this responsibility and duty because He wants us to play a central role and achieve world peace, instead of worrying and caring only about ourselves. From now on, we must create a beautiful and enjoyable world, where people embrace and care for one another, and not let envy, jealousy, conflict and hostility get in our way.

사람은 왜 사는 것일까요? 결론적으로 말하면, 숨이 붙어 있어 사는 것입니다. 나라와 민족 때문에, 가족 때문에, 태어났기 때문에 등의 변명을 하지 마십시오. 숨이 붙어 있기 때문에 살 수 밖에 없는 것입니다. 살 수 밖에 없어 살아야 한다면 평안하고, 보람 있는 삶을 살아야 합니다. 기업도 인간과 같습니다. 기업체는 설립되는 그 순간부터 스스로 생명을 갖는 유기체입니다. 공장의 기계나 외부거래처, 소비자, 내부조직원, 임원, CEO등이 서로 어울려 영향을 주고받으며 끊임없이 변화합니다. 그러나 한계를 가진 우리 인간이 이 변화를 모두 인식하거나 문제의 해결책을 찾아 대응 할 수 있는 능력이 없습니다. 새로운 프로젝트를 위해 과거의 데이터를 이용하여 논리성이나 합리성을 추구한다는 것도 예상치 못한 상황 변화나, 예기치 못한 돌발 사태로 인해 실패했을 때에 도망가기 위한 변명과 핑계의 수단일 뿐입니다. 이유는 바로, 본성을 놓쳤기 때문입니다. 교육에서 얻는 지식이나 경험의 틀 속에 갇혀 본성을 잃었기에, 작고 힘없는 동식물보다도 더 어리석고 불쌍하게 살고 있습니다. 이제는 인간의 본성을 회복해서 우주흐름에 따라 살아갈 수 있는 예지력을 얻어야 합니다. 작은 지혜는 인간 상호간에 얻을 수 있지만, 큰 지혜는 우주의 기운을 받아야 얻을 수 있습니다. 큰 지혜를 얻으면 높은 안목을 가질 수 있고, 안목이 높아지면 자연적으로 시야가 넓어집니다. 시야가 넓어져야 가능한 많은 변동 요인을 눈으로 확인할 수 있습니다. 인생과 마찬가지로 기업 경영도 선택의 연속입니다. 안목이 높고 시야가 넓어야 가장 합리적인 선택을 할 수 있습니다. 이것이 우리가 말하는 '영성회복'입니다. 여러분들의 작은 기운을 우주의 큰 기운으로, 작은 지혜를 큰 지혜로 바꿔 드립니다. 영성회복을 통해 행복한 삶과 지속성장이 가능한 기업을 이끌어 가십시오.
Why do people live? To put it simply, we will live as long as we can still breathe. Do not say that you are living for your country and its people, for your family, or because you were born. You are living because you are still breathing. Since we are alive, we should make the best of our lives, striving to lead a comfortable and rewarding life. Companies are comparable to human beings. Companies become living beings the moment they become established. The factory machines, business partners, consumers, staff, executives and the CEO influence and are influenced by one another, and undergo continuous changes. However, human beings, who have limitations, do not have the ability to perceive and recognize all of these changes, and find solutions to the problems. Seeking logic and reason for a new project using data from the past is just a means to escape the blame in the future when an unexpected change or situation occurs and causes the project to fail. This is because we have lost our human nature amidst the experience and the knowledge we gain through education, and this has made us become more foolish and pitiful than small, powerful animals and plants. Now, we must attempt to recover our human nature and gain the power to foresee the flow of the universe. Little wisdom can be obtained from other people, but grand wisdom can only be obtained by receiving the energy of the universe. Grand wisdom will provide us with a discerning eye, and this will naturally broaden our view. We must broaden our view in order to see the factors causing changes around us. Just like the way people manage their lives, managing a company involves making a series of choices. You need an excellent discerning eye and a broad view in order to make the most rational and practical choices. This is what I’m referring to when I speak of “spiritual recovery,” which turns your small energy into the great energy of the universe and small wisdom to great wisdom. Lead a joyful life and a company that can achieve sustainable growth through spiritual recovery.

기업경영, 이제는 ‘사람’이다
Corporate management:
It’s “people” that should come first.

이 세상에 존재하는 모든 재화나 용역은 인간에 의해 그리고 인간을 위해 만들어지고 또 인간들이 사용합니다. 인간이 존재하지 않고 사용하지 않는다면 아무런 존재 가치도 없고 의미도 없는 재화나 용역은 애지중지 귀하게 여기면서 정작 주체인 인간은 무시합니다. 근본을 놓쳤으니 뿌리 없이 흔들리며 사는 부초 같은 인생살이가 되는 것입니다. 기업가는 땀 흘리며 제품을 생산해주는 종업원을 소중하게 생각해야 합니다. 기업체가 원활하게 운용되도록 도움을 주는 협력업체 관계자들도 소중하게 여겨야 합니다. 만약, 그런 사람들의 협조나 참여가 없다면 기업체는 하루아침에 문을 닫을 수밖에 없습니다. 더 더욱 소중한 것은 바로 우리가 생산한 재화나 용역을 사용해주는 소비자들입니다. 향후 백년 정도는 우리나라가 새 역사의 주역이라 했으니 우리가 결정적인 악수만 범하지 않으면 우리나라 경제는 순탄하게 나아갈 수 있을 것입니다.
All goods and services in this world are produced by the people and for the people, and are used by the people. If people did not exist, goods and services would have no value or meaning. Yet we value such goods and services every so highly, while ignoring people who are the ones who give them value. When you do not see the essence, you will live like a floating weed, which wavers constantly as it is without any roots. Entrepreneurs should value their employees who shed sweat and toil, producing the products on their behalf. They should also value the staff of their contractors who help their businesses run smoothly. Without their cooperation and assistance, their companies would have no choice but to close down overnight. What’s even more important is to value the consumers who use the goods and services. I’ve mentioned that Korea will play a leading role in the world for the next hundred years, and as long as we do not make any false moves that come with dire consequences, our economy will continue to grow.

젊은이들이여! 미안하다, 잘못했다
To the younger generations,
we are sorry, it is our fault.

무역 1조 달러 시대! 온 세상이 깜짝 놀랄 일을 우리가 해냈습니다. 지난 근 50년간, 우리는 그야말로 앞만 보고 달렸습니다. 엄격한 가부장제 아래, 층층시하 많은 가족들 사이에서 밥 한 숟가락이라도 많이 먹으려고 눈치 보며 살았습니다. 사회생활을 시작하면서 치열한 경쟁을 견디지 못하면 바로 도태되는 세상이라는 현실을 접하고, 옆도 한번 쳐다볼 겨를도 없이 달리고 달렸습니다. 경제적으로 궁핍했으니 그동안 하고 싶어도 해보지 못한 일들이 너무나 많았습니다. 길을 지나다 어쩌다 들리는 피아노 소리를 한없이 부러워했고 그림 그리는 학생들의 모습이 정말 아름답게 보였습니다. 체육도장 앞을 지날 때에 들리는 기합 소리에 스스로 주눅이 들곤 했습니다. 참고서 한 권 사서 마음 놓고 읽을 경제적 여유도 없었습니다. 부잣집 아이들이 공부방이 있다고 자랑하면 어린 소견에 경제적으로 여유가 없는 부모님을 원망하기도 했습니다. 살아오면서 너무나 원도 많고 한도 많아 내 자식들에게는 절대로 이런 고생을 시키지 않으리라 작심하고 작심했습니다. 우리 기성세대들이 몰랐습니다. 내 자식이기 이전에 한 사람의 독립된 인격체임을 몰랐습니다. 그 사람도 나와 마찬가지로 치열한 경쟁을 치러야 한다는 사실을 미처 인식하지 못했습니다. 우리가 하루 세끼 끼니를 넉넉하게 먹지 못했고 철따라 옷도 옳게 입지 못했고 변변한 참고서 하나 없이 생활했으니 좀더 맛있는 음식 해먹이고, 철따라 옷 해 입히면 되는 것으로 착각했습니다. 보습학원이나 예능학원에라도 보내주면 기죽지 않고 훌륭하게 잘 성장해서 사회의 일원으로 뿌리내릴 것으로 착각했습니다. 사랑을 베푼다는 것이 우리 아이들을 온실 속의 화초처럼 나약하게 키우고 있다는 사실도 알지 못했습니다. 조금만 소홀히 해도 감기가 들어 죽을지도 모르는데, 참으로 어리석었습니다. 밥 먹어라, 공부해라, 일찍 자고 일찍 일어나라, 2030세대 여러분들이 우리 기성세대를 충분히 이해하지 못하듯, 우리도 여러분들을 이해하지 못합니다. 이해하지 못하는 것이 아니라 이해하려고 하지 않았습니다. 비록 같은 시간과 공간에서 살지만 사는 바탕이 전혀 달라졌다는 사실을 몰랐습니다. 사랑을 쏟고 정성을 들이는 것이 여러분들에게는 필요없는 간섭과 잔소리가 되었음을 이제야 조금 알 것 같습니다. 옛말에 이런 말이 있습니다. “아이들 크는 걸 보면 어른 늙는 줄 모른다.” 시대는 급변하는데 교육은 지금도 예전 그대로를 답습하고 있으니 가장 큰 피해자가 바로 2030세대 여러분들입니다. 내 자식만 보았지 젊은이들 전체를 보지 못했던 것입니다. 지금도 어리석은 기성세대들은 젊은이 일자리 창출 운운하면서 행정기관에 가서 심부름이나 시키는 것으로 착각하고 있습니다. 우리 젊은이들의 앞날을 위한 발상의 대전환이 꼭 필요합니다. 문제의 근본적인 원인을 찾아내고 시대의 흐름을 읽어 급변하는 이 시대에 능동적으로 대처해야 합니다. 이제부터라도 정치인과 행정관료, 그리고 교육가들과 부모들 그리고 당사자인 2030 세대 여러분들이 같이 머리를 맞대고 해결책을 찾아야 합니다. 미안합니다. 우리도 어리석은 인간이라 세상을 바로 보지 못했습니다.
South Korea has entered the era of USD 1 trillion, which is a remarkable feat. In the past 50 years, we have been moving forward without looking anywhere else. Living as part of an extended family with many children gave a glimpse of what it would be like in the real world, where people fell behind if they could not withstand the fierce competition, and this is why everyone strove forward with their eyes focused on only what was ahead. When we walked by a gym, we felt intimidated by the loud shouts we heard from the inside. We couldn’t afford to buy a reference book to study with. When kids from affluent families bragged about their study rooms, those of us who weren’t as well off resented our parents for their financial inadequacies because we were so young and immature at the time. The pent-up desires and resentment made us become resolved to not let our children suffer the kind of hardships we ourselves had faced. But what we did not realize was that our children were independent beings. We did not recognize the fact that they also have to survive through fierce competitions as we have. Our desires and resentment arose from being unable to eat three a meals a day, to buy new clothes every season, and to buy study materials, so we mistakenly believed that it’d be enough for us to provide our children with delicious meals and to buy them clothes every season. We believed that sending them to academies after school would allow them to grow into confident and competent individuals and become integral members of society. We did not realize that showering our children with love would make them become weak and fragile. We were foolish. “Eat well, study, sleep early and wake up early.” Just as the people in their 20s and 30s do not understand the older generations, we also do not understand you fully. Perhaps it is more truthful to say that we have not tried to understand you. We did not realize that although we may be living in the same time and place, the background of our lives are completely different. Now we are starting to realize that showering you with love seemed like unnecessary meddling and nagging to you. There is an old saying, “When you see how fast a child grows up, you won’t notice how fast an elderly person grows old.” Time is changing fast, yet we still haven’t changed our ways, and the biggest victims suffering from this are the people in their 20s and 30s. The older generations including myself have only focused on our own children, without seeing your generation as a whole. Even now, the foolish older generations are talking about creating jobs for young adults yet their only plans are to make them go on small errands at administrative agencies. We need to change the way we think in order to ensure a brighter future for the younger generations. We must discover the underlying cause of the problems we face today, and proactively respond to the rapid changes occurring in our society. Politicians, administrative officials, educators, parents and the people in their 20s and 30s must come together to jointly find a solution. Dear people in their 20s and 30s, we are sorry. We have been foolish, and failed to develop a proper view of the world.

여성이여! 일어서라
Dear women, rise and take a stand!

우리나라 여성들을 보면 참으로 대단하구나 싶습니다. 스포츠로 국위선양을 한 경우만 봐도 거의 모두가 여성들입니다. 여자 양궁, 여자 배구, 여자 탁구, 여자 농구, 여자 핸드볼, 여자 골프, 여자 축구, 여자 스케이트와 아이스 댄싱 모두 여성들의 활약은 눈부십니다. 엄격한 가부장제가 여성들을 억누르면서 사회진출을 막지만 않았어도 지금보다 훨씬 많은 여성들이 각계에서 출중한 역할을 하고 있으리라 생각됩니다. 그렇다고 여성들을 위한 특별한 예우나 대우를 바라는 것이 아닙니다. 사회적 편견과 장벽만 제거해주면 강인한 우리 여성들이 스스로 자리를 잡아갈 겁니다. 그 어렵다는 국가고시와 전문직종의 자격시험에 당당하게 합격하는 여성들을 보십시오. 전체 인구의 반을 여성이 차지하고 있는데 그 소중한 인력을 낭비해서 어찌 큰 발전을 이루겠습니까? 여성 여러분들이 들고 일어서야 합니다. 스스로 사육되고 다듬어진 틀을 깨고 밖으로 나와야 합니다. 엄마가 객관성과 일관성을 확실하게 견지해야 자식들이 바로 섭니다. 대단한 열정과 투지 그리고 재능을 가진 여성들이 바로 서야 나라가 바로 섭니다. 대단한 그 열정과 재능을 내 가족이 아닌 사회 전체를 향해 쏟아내야 합니다. 여성은 여성이요, 남성은 남성일 따름입니다. 누구의 부속물도 아니고 소유물은 더 더욱 아닙니다. 여성들이 앞장서야 이 세상이 편안해지리라 믿습니다.
Korean women seem incredible. Women make up the vast majority of the athletes who bolstered the image of Korea on the international sports stage. Female archers, volleyball players, table tennis players, basketball players, handball players, golfers, football players, skaters and ice dancers have demonstrated excellence in their respective fields. If our patriarchal society had not oppressed women, many more would have played pivotal roles in various sectors. I am not urging special treatments for women. Just by eliminating prejudice and social barriers, the strong women of Korea will gain firm grounds in their respective fields on their own. Look at all the women who have passed the rigorous national examinations and licensing exams to become public servants and professionals. Half of the world’s population are women; so how can we achieve greatness if we waste their manpower? Women need to rise and take a stand. They must break free from the frame that keeps them trapped inside. Women, who are talented, courageous and strong, must take a stand. That’s the only way our nation can become strong. Women must pour their passion into the entire society, instead of just their immediate families. Women do not “belong” to men. They are not to be considered men’s possessions. I believe women must stand at the forefront for the world to be at peace.

인간의 본능이라는 것은 컴퓨터 반도체에 비유하면 ROM(고정기억장치)이라 할 수 있습니다. ROM이 입력된 내용을 사용자가 마음대로 바꾸지 못하듯이 본능을 인간의 뜻대로 변경하거나 교체할 수 없습니다. 본능과 마찬가지로 내가 태어난 환경을 원하지 않는다고 되돌릴 수도 없고 내 신체조건이 마음에 들지 않는다고 바꿀 수도 없습니다. 컴퓨터는 기술자에게 부탁해 새로운 데이터가 입력된 ROM으로 대체할 수 있겠지만 불행히도 인간은 컴퓨터처럼 다시 태어날 수 없습니다. 그렇다면 인간은 본능처럼 주어진 운명에 그저 만족하며 살아야 할까요? 결코 그렇지 않습니다. 우리 인생에는 컴퓨터처럼 읽고 쓰기가 자유로운 지성, 이성, 지식이 내장된 RAM이라는 반도체가 있기 때문입니다. RAM에 어떤 지식이나 경험이 담겨 있느냐에 따라 그 사람의 모습은 물론이고 인생이 달라집니다. 인간의 본능이 ROM에 담긴 내용대로 따른다고 한다면, 이성은 RAM에 담긴 내용대로 따르는 것이라 생각합니다. 지금까지 자신의 RAM 속에 쌓여진 지식과 경험의 데이터 중 맞는 정보만 취하겠다고 한다면 편협한 사고로 치우질 수밖에 없습니다. 그냥 많은 것을 보고, 듣고, 배워서 RAM에 입력해 두었다가 필요한 경우에 꺼내 쓰면 됩니다. 그러면 성공하기 위해서는 어떻게 해야 하겠습니까? 내가 직면하고 있는 현실을 냉철하게 인식해야 합니다. 내가 가진 것이 많으면 많은 대로, 적으면 적은대로, 살면서 얻은 지식이 살아가면서 봉착하는 많은 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 다양한 지식과 경험이 필요합니다. 내 취향이나 전공에 내 경험이 부족하면 부족한대로, 내가 쌓은 실력이 모자라면 모자라는 그 상태에서 출발해야 화학적으로 융합되어 흔들리지 않습니다. 내 자신이 처한 현실을 인식하셨습니까? 그렇다면 내가 처한 현실을 출발점으로 해서 인생의 원대한 목표를 설정하십시오. 남들이 뭐라고 하든 나 자신의 목표이니 조금은 허황돼도 괜찮습니다. 이제 출발점과 목표점이 확실하게 정해졌으니 부단하게 노력만 하시면 됩니다. 꼭 100% 목표를 달성하지 못해도 괜찮습니다. 목표의 60%~70%만 이뤄도 다른 사람들보다 훨씬 성공한 삶을 살 것이기 때문입니다.
Human instincts could be compared to the read-only memory (ROM), a semiconductor memory for computers. Just as users cannot modify the data stored in the ROM, we cannot change or replace our instincts however we want to. Similar to the case of instincts, we cannot change the environment where we were born and raised, or the physical conditions we were born with. With computers, you can ask a computer technician to replace the old ROM with a new one that has the data you desire, but unfortunately, we cannot simply wipe out our current lives to start a new one. Then, should we just try to be content with the destiny we have been given? Not at all. That’s because we also have the random-access memory (RAM), which stores our intellect, knowledge and reasoning skills that can be freely accessed for reading the old information and writing new information. Depending on the type of knowledge and experience stored in RAM, our appearance and life become completely different. While our human instincts are stored in the ROM, our voice of reason comes from the RAM. But if you only obtain information that you prefer from all of the experiences and knowledge accumulated in your RAM, then you will end up with biased views. You should see, listen and learn as much as you can and store the information in the RAM so that it can be retrieved whenever necessary. What do you think you must do in order to gain success? You must perceive your current reality as is from an objective point of view. In order to solve the countless issues you face throughout the course of your life, you will need a wide variety of experiences and knowledge. But you need to accept the fact that you may lack certain experiences, skills and talents because that is the only when you will remain steadfast in your journey, without wavering. Are you well-aware of your current situation? Then, make that your starting point and set forth a grand vision for your life. Regardless of what anyone says, it’s okay to dream big – even to the point of slight absurdity. Now that you know your starting point and your target destination, all you have to do is make tireless efforts. It’s alright if you don’t fully achieve your objective because even if you have achieved just 60 to 70% of your objective, you will probably be living a more successful life than most other people.

Kim Gyu-deok not only predicted that Lee Myung-bak would win the Grand National Party’s (GNP, Hannara-dang) nomination as its presidential candidate and ultimately be elected in the 17th Presidential Election of the Republic of Korea, but he projected that Lee’s presidency would not be turbulent due to his imperious and obstinate personality. In order to spread the belief that Koreans must make world history over the course of the next century and to help young adults lead a noble life, Kim Gyu-deok will be holding a “talk concert” hosted by Kim Hong-shin, a National Assemblyman-turned-writer, at the Yonsei University 100th Anniversary Memorial Hall on October 25 this year. He will be praying that this talk concert will become an impetus for the people of Korea to develop a proper concept of spirituality and achieve spiritual recovery to lead successful and joyful lives.
